Academic Departments

The school establishes academic departments based on subject groups or by merging them to streamline the educational process. Currently, the "Skhivi" Georgian-German School operates the following specialized departments to ensure a comprehensive curriculum:

  • Georgian Language & Literature
  • Foreign Languages (German/English)
  • Mathematics & Information Technologies
  • Natural Sciences (STEM)
  • Humanities & Social Sciences
  • Aesthetic Education & Sports

Functions of the Departments

  • Coordination: Managing the teaching of subjects within the group.
  • Experience Sharing: Identifying prerequisites for success and solving pedagogical challenges among members.
  • Resource Selection: Choosing educational materials for the classroom, professional development, and the school library.
  • Inter-departmental Cooperation: Coordinating shared themes between subjects (e.g., History and Georgian Literature) and planning joint assignments for field trips.
  • Professional Growth: Ensuring continuous professional development for teachers.
  • Innovation: Developing recommendations for implementing modern teaching methods and approaches.
  • Analysis: Reviewing documentation of summative assignments, student academic achievements, and attendance data.
  • Curriculum Review: Discussing subject curricula and thematic matrices.

Departmental Organization

  • Leadership: Each department elects a Chairperson by a majority vote for a term of one academic year.
  • Term Limits: The same individual may be elected as Chairperson for a maximum of three consecutive terms.
  • Meetings: Departments meet at least twice per semester, including a mandatory meeting before the start of the academic year and a summary/analysis meeting at the end of each semester.

Chairperson's Responsibilities

  • Organizing meetings, preparing agendas, and maintaining official minutes/documentation.
  • Communicating departmental decisions (e.g., selection of textbooks) to the school administration.
  • Organizing professional activities such as peer meetings, trainings, and conferences.
